Job summary

City of Arlington seeks a skilled Construction Specialist to monitor and direct architects, consultants, and contractors on major municipal building projects, ensuring compliance with plans, codes, and schedules.

The role backs up the Construction Manager, leads field observations, reviews payments and change orders, and coordinates with staff and contractors to keep projects on track and within budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, construction engineering or architecture with five years of related experience.
• Knowledge of building codes, construction specifications, and construction practices.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).
• Strong communication skills under pressure and ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders.
• Plan, organize and manage multiple projects with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support the Construction Manager on large projects as a backup to the Construction Manager position.
• Observe and administer construction of City building projects to confirm compliance with project requirements and progress; submit field reports.
• Communicate with Construction Manager, City staff, architects and contractors to resolve design and construction conflicts.
• Review contractors' payment applications; prepare and review change orders and allowances.
• Maintain knowledge of current construction practices and provide recommendations on construction issues.
