Job summary

NYC Department of Buildings seeks a Civil Engineer to join the Construction Safety Engineering unit, performing drawing and document review, and field checks for complex, high-risk projects across all five boroughs.

This role also conducts incident reviews, plan examinations, and forensic investigations, and may involve issuing summonses to design professionals. Remote work up to 2 days per week is available.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of full-time civil engineering experience.
• A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License required.
• Master's degree in civil engineering may substitute for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Work independently in the Construction Safety Engineering unit performing drawing and document review and field reviews of complex high-risk construction projects across all five boroughs.
• Perform audit reviews of complex projects including support of excavation, foundations, interior demolition and scaffolding submissions.
• Meet with project consultants and owners representatives to review status and compliance with applicable codes.
• Issue summonses to Registered Design Professionals and Special Inspectors for construction code compliance.
• Perform field drawing reviews for a wide variety of complex building projects and temporary construction equipment in paper and electronic formats.
• Respond to construction-related incidents in coordination with inspection units.
• Perform forensic investigations and reviews of construction incidents, including reports and documentation.
• Support senior leadership and coordinate with federal, state and local regulators on technical matters.

Education

Master's degree in civil engineering

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in NYS
