Job summary

ECS Mid-Atlantic, LLC is seeking an experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Principal Engineer to join our Charlottesville field services team. You will oversee CMT projects, mentor staff, and manage client relations from proposal to final review, ensuring quality and deadlines.

The role requires a PE or PG, 12+ years of relevant experience, and strong leadership. Excellent communication and business development skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Materials Science Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Geology (note: some tech degrees may not be considered).
• Minimum 12 years of relevant experience including drafting, reviewing, and approving technical reports.
• Professional licensure as a PE or PG.
• Senior reviewer designation or demonstrated history required.
• Maintain licenses and certifications for compliance with laws.
• Demonstrated leadership, safety, and professionalism; strong project management and business development.

Responsibilities

• Oversee CMT projects, review technical reports, prepare/review proposals, and assist with department and P&L management.
• Provide technical expertise by reviewing reports and mentoring staff through training and development.
• Mentor junior project managers and assist staffing decisions with managers and recruiters.
• Lead project meetings with clients and resolve technical issues as requested.
• Market ECS services through networking and maintain client relationships.
