Job summary

City of Suffolk is seeking a Construction Inspector II to inspect local development and capital improvements projects, ensuring compliance with city standards and policies. The role includes testing materials, reviewing plans, and coordinating with engineers and developers.

You will prepare reports, assist CIP Manager with construction administration, and help resolve complex inspection issues while maintaining safety and quality throughout projects.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with 8 years progressive inspection experience, or equivalent combination.
• Associate's degree with 6 years journey level experience in construction/building trades or inspection.
• Bachelor's degree with 4 years journey level experience in construction/building trades or inspection.
• Valid driver's license.
• VDEQ Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Inspector Certification; for DPW must have VDOT Pavement Marking Certification and Traffic Signal Inspector Level I & II (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction projects to enforce City ordinances and standards.
• Review project plans and documents for compliance with policies.
• Coordinate with City SMEs and stakeholders on technical aspects.
• Test and monitor erosion, sediment, water, and stormwater controls.
• Prepare reports, measurements, and monthly estimates for capital projects.
• Assist CIP Manager with construction administration and project walk-throughs.
