Howland Company, Inc. seeks an experienced Accounting Manager to lead financial operations for residential construction projects in Greater Boston.

The role combines hands-on bookkeeping with controller-level oversight, focusing on job costing, AIA billing, payroll, and reporting for a team of project managers and site supervisors. Ideal candidates have 5–8+ years in accounting, 3+ years in residential construction, and proficiency with BuilderTrend, QuickBooks, Bill.com, and Excel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 3+ years in residential construction/general contracting
• Experience with AIA billing formats and job costing
• Strong Excel and financial reporting capabilities
• Proficiency with construction-specific software and systems

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end financial operations with controller-level oversight
• Manage job costing, profitability analysis, and budget variance reporting
• Handle A/R, billing, progress invoicing, owner invoices, and collections
• Administer A/P, subcontractor payments, and 1099 reporting
• Process payroll, maintain payroll records, and track benefits/leave
• Prepare month-end and year-end close statements and financial reports
• Monitor daily cash flow and assist with liquidity planning
• Coordinate with CPA firms for annual tax preparation and audits
