Job summary

Howland Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager for a full-time role in Greater New Bedford. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on accounting and budgeting expertise within residential construction, including builder software and Excel proficiency.

Responsibilities cover job costing, AIA billing, payroll, GL, and cash flow, with collaboration across PMs and leadership. Hybrid office/remote option and competitive compensation offered.

Qualifications

• 5–8+ years progressive accounting, with at least 3 years in residential construction/general contracting.
• Proficiency in construction accounting software (BuilderTrend, Bill.com, QuickBooks Premier/Online, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (or equivalent professional experience).
• Active Driver's License and daily access to a vehicle for occasional travel between regional offices.
• References from past employers and/or industry partners.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end financial operations, including bookkeeping and controller-level oversight.
• Job Costing: maintain project cost accounting and analyze budget variances with PMs.
• Accounts Receivable & Billing: manage progress billings, owner invoices, AIA formats, and collections.
• Accounts Payable & Subcontractors: oversee subcontracts, invoices, insurance compliance, vendor payments, 1099 reporting.
• Payroll & HR Support: process payroll, manage certified payroll, track benefits and PTO.
• General Ledger & Reporting: reconcile accounts, close statements, and prepare monthly financials.
• Cash Flow Management: monitor daily cash flow and vendor relationships.
• Compliance & Audit: coordinate with CPA for taxes and manage workers' comp audits.
