Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Configuration Engineer to support VA applications and migration to cloud. You will lead CM activities, develop tools, and ensure repeatable build and deployment across projects.

Ideal candidates have deep CM expertise, experience in regulated/federal environments, and strong scripting/DevOps skills. Remote, 100% U.S.-based, with a Public Trust (MBI) clearance preferred.

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading complex software builds and releases.
• Experience in large, regulated or federal environments.
• Deep expertise in software configuration management.
• Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM practices: identification, baselining, change control, status accounting.
• Experience with source control systems and branching/merging strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and artifact repositories.
• Scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform).
• Knowledge of software quality standards and governance.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, reporting, delivery of software.
• Perform CM and release tasks ensuring parameters align with hardware configurations.
• Design, develop, automate, maintain productivity tools for modeling and development.
• Create build procedures to support product development and usage.
• Develop software configuration standards for company-wide use.
• Train developers in CM tools and quality practices.
• Provide technical guidance and solutions to complex problems.
• Operate autonomously and make sound decisions.
• Ensure compliant, repeatable build and deployment processes across projects.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead and train junior analysts/engineers in CM best practices.
