Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Configuration Engineer to support VA applications and drive the migration to the cloud. You will lead software configuration management and release activities, develop CM tools, and ensure repeatable build and deployment processes across diverse environments.

The role requires deep CM expertise, experience in federal or regulated settings, and the ability to mentor junior staff while collaborating with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience leading and delivering complex software builds and releases.
• Proven background in regulated or federal environments.
• Deep CM and release engineering expertise across multiple environments.
• Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM practices: identification, baselining, change control, status accounting.
• Proficient in source control and branching strategies (Git, SVN, etc.).
• Familiar with CI/CD tools and artifact repositories (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Nexus/Artifactory).
• Scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as code (Ansible, Terraform).
• Understanding of software quality standards and governance.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and lead migration to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software products.
• Perform CM and release tasks ensuring documentation, configurations, and logistics are sound.
• Design, develop, automate, and maintain productivity tools for software modeling and development.
• Create build procedures to support product development and use.
• Develop CM standards for company-wide adoption.
• Train developers in CM tools and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance and solutions to complex problems.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and mentor junior analysts/engineers.
• Maintain compliant, repeatable build and deployment processes across projects.
