Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory seeks a Computer Scientist in the Atmospheric, Climate, and Earth Sciences Division to advance GPU-enabled atmospheric modeling, AMReX-based codes, and scalable numerical methods. You will guide production software across DOE HPC systems and mentor researchers in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

The role emphasizes leadership in software development for high-performance computing, GPU portability, and rigorous verification within a national laboratory

Qualifications

  • BS/BA with 5+ years, or MS/MA with 3+ years, or PhD with 1+ year of relevant experience.
  • Experience porting/optimizing scientific codes for GPUs (CUDA/HIP/SYCL).
  • Proven track record in production-quality scientific software for HPC.

Responsibilities

  • Lead software engineering and development for the ERF model on GOP/AMReX.
  • Develop portable numerical algorithms for atmospheric flow on CPU/GPU.
  • Oversee deployment, CI, and performance validation on DOE HPC systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to publications and open-source.
