Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks an experienced computational scientist to lead software development for ERF and AMReX-based codes. The role focuses on high‑performance computing, GPU portability, and scalable numerical methods across CPU/GPU platforms.

You will collaborate with multi-institution teams, advance compression-based atmospheric models, and contribute to publications and open-source software practices.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computational Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Atmospheric Science, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in scientific software development.
  • Proven leadership in developing production-quality scientific software for HPC environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead software engineering and development efforts for the ERF model built on AMReX.
  • Design, develop, and maintain performant numerical algorithms for atmospheric cores.
  • Oversee deployment and CI/validation on DOE HPC systems (Frontier, Perlmutter, Aurora).
  • Mentor junior software engineers and postdocs working on ERF and AMReX-based codes.
  • Publish technical and software contributions in DOE program reviews and conferences.
