Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Senior Architect to lead the design of operating systems, hypervisors, VMs, and containers for its Cloud Infrastructure. You will work embedded within engineering teams and help shape the Compute platform across IaaS, Kubernetes, and cloud-native services.

The role demands deep Linux expertise, strong virtualization knowledge, and experience with Go, Python, and Bash. You will mentor others and drive architecture decisions in an Agile setting.

Qualifications

• 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
• Experience building and operating highly available, fault‑tolerant, and large‑scale distributed production services using Virtualization and Cloud‑Native technologies (e.g. qemu, kvm, Cilium, etc.)
• Advanced knowledge of operating systems, linux internals, virtualization technologies, hypervisors, performance optimization
• Experience with containers and the technologies that revolve around them (e.g., systemd, docker, containerd, Kubernetes)
• Demonstrate significant experience with Linux, Go, Python, Bash
• Understand SaaS, PaaS, IaaS with experience in one or more public cloud offerings

Responsibilities

• Own the system design and implementation, guiding engineering while aligning with the big picture
• Build proof-of-concepts to inform design choices and technology selection
• Collaborate with product managers and product architects to inform product direction
• Contribute to and shape the engineering roadmap with stakeholders
• Develop best practices, share knowledge, and mentor teammates
• Collaborate with engineering teams in an Agile environment that fosters innovation and rapid development
