Job summary

County of Hawai‘i in Hilo invites applications for a permanent full-time Planning position in the Long Range Division. The role entails responsible professional planning work in the development, design, conduct, and completion of community planning projects and related duties.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree and four years of experience in planning fields such as community planning, environmental planning, architecture, or engineering.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree, and
  • Four years of work experience in community planning, environmental planning, architecture, engineering, socio-economic research, land development, or related community planning activities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs professional planning work in conducting surveys and studies for the General Plan, including street and highway systems, utilities, recreation and school facilities.
  • Supervises and participates in the preparation of maps, charts, designs and layouts for off-street parking, utilities, street systems, civic center and public buildings.
  • Conducts land use studies including governmental, public utility, school and recreational usages, and designating building types, locations and layouts.
  • Prepares plans and details, including cost estimates.
  • Reviews zoning and related district classifications, area requirements, height limitations and land/building utilization standards.
  • May process and investigate zoning violation cases.
  • Analyzes development plans and proposals related to land requirements for residential, resort, commercial, industrial and public facilities.
