The role requires strong HVAC/electrical knowledge, field testing expertise, and the ability to mentor junior staff. Travel up to 30% and a collaborative, in-person work environment are expected.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• 7 years minimum experience in Commissioning or MEP consulting with similar roles (8 preferred)
• Alternative track: 11+ years in Commissioning or MEP design consulting (12 preferred)

Responsibilities

• Manage and/or support multiple commissioning projects, including client interface, team coordination, and schedule/budget management.
• Develop commissioning plans, specs and project documentation using web-based tools (Cx Alloy).
• Perform commissioning design reviews, construction document reviews, and equipment submittal reviews.
• Lead commissioning meetings and communicate with stakeholders.
• Conduct jobsite field observations and issue detailed field reports.
• Develop pre-functional checklists and functional test procedures.
• Coordinate and self-perform functional testing with contractors/owners and manage issues to resolution.
• Analyze building operation, controls and sequences.
• Improve commissioning processes and best practices.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet project goals.
• Mentor less-experienced staff in a team environment.

IMEG is hiring a Senior Commissioning Authority in Raleigh, NC to lead commissioning services on a wide range of building types, including large and complex projects, while also supporting retro-commissioning and energy assessment efforts. In this role, you will manage commissioning planning, documentation, design reviews, field observations, functional testing, issue management, and reporting.

You will work closely with owners, contractors, and multidisciplinary design teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals. The role also includes schedule and budget management, technical analysis of building operation, and mentoring less-experienced employees in a team-based atmosphere.

What You'll Bring

Required Education and Experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
• 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in Commissioning or in the Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEP) consulting industry, or equivalent
• OR
• 11 years of experience minimum required, 12 preferred, in Commissioning or in the Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEP) design consulting industry, or equivalent

Skills and Abilities

• Strong oral and written skills and a proven ability to interact professionally with a wide a range of clients
• Experienced knowledge of HVAC and electrical system designs and operations
• Experienced knowledge of building automation and lighting control systems
• Experienced knowledge of Cx Industry Standards (ASHRAE, ACG, BCxA) and code requirements
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (CEC Title 24, ASHRAE, IECC, IMC, NEC, etc.)
• Experienced in the review of construction documents (mechanical, controls, plumbing and electrical drawings, specifications, etc.)
• Experienced knowledge of electrical and fire/life safety systems
• Knowledge of construction industry safety practices and procedures
• Experienced in troubleshooting of field devices and control hardware and software
• Capable of self-performing functional testing of building MEP systems and coordinates non-standard test scopes such as technology, BECx, etc
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Skilled with PDF editors (Bluebeam, Adobe), plus additional online project management software
• Ability to travel up to 30% (travel will depend on project needs and may vary widely)

Preferred

• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred
• Recognized Building Commissioning Certification preferred (or ability and desire to obtain one)
