Job summary

The Claremont Colleges Services seeks a Commercial HVAC Service Technician to perform advanced inspection, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and installation of complex commercial HVAC systems campus-wide.

As a senior technician, you will assist with planning and coordination of work, support system reliability, and respond to routine and emergency service calls while upholding safety and quality standards across The Claremont Colleges facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with education, training, and/or experience beyond minimum.
• 7–10 years of commercial HVAC experience applying trade techniques.
• Fluent English: speaking, reading, writing.
• Strong math skills for measurements, areas, volumes, and weights.
• Ability to climb, lift heavy equipment, work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Willing to overtime, on-call, and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair HVAC equipment including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, DX systems up to 200 tons, VRF systems, air handlers, pumps, and compressors.
• Interpret blueprints and manufacturers’ instructions to determine operation sequences for maintenance and repair.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and suggest necessary repairs.
• Replace compressors, pumps, seals, and motors.
• Conduct factory-level start-ups and respond to emergency service calls.
• Complete service reports with readings and recommendations.
• Access and navigate Building Automation Systems via front-end terminals.
• Troubleshoot problems using electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic testing equipment.
• Adjust controls and set temperatures/pressures; assist in major system installations.
• Work on Air Conditioning Shop and Central Facilities Services duties.
