Job summary

MillerWorks is seeking a Senior Commercial HVAC Technician to join our Tallahassee team. This role performs advanced diagnostics, repair, installation, and commissioning of commercial HVAC systems, providing leadership on complex tasks and mentoring junior technicians.

You will ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and high service quality, maintaining documentation and strong customer communication throughout every project.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred.
• 5–10 years of commercial HVAC service or installation experience.
• EPA 608 Universal Certification.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain complex commercial HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, rooftop units etc.
• Lead field operations on service calls and projects, ensuring safety and adherence to procedures.
• Perform installations and retrofits including piping, ductwork, electrical connections and commissioning.
• Use BAS for troubleshooting and optimization.
• Provide guidance and on‑the‑job training to junior technicians.
• Maintain accurate service records and equipment logs.

MillerWorks is looking to fill a Senior Commercial HVAC Technician position in Tallahassee, FL. Position Summary:

The Senior Commercial HVAC Technician performs advanced diagnostics, repair, installation, and commissioning of commercial heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning systems. This position serves as a technical expert in the field, provides leadership on complex assignments, ensures compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and supports operational excellence through documentation, communication, and mentoring of junior technicians. The role is critical to maintaining service quality, customer satisfaction, and adherence to company standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain complex commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, rooftop units, VRF/VRV systems, cooling towers, pumps, and associated controls.


• Lead field operations on assigned service calls and projects, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with company procedures and industry standards.


• Perform system installations and retrofits, including equipment placement, piping, ductwork modifications, electrical connections, and commissioning activities.


• Utilize building automation systems (BAS) for troubleshooting, calibration, and system optimization.


• Interpret and apply mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer documentation.


• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and on ‑ the ‑ job training to junior and mid ‑ level technicians.


• Maintain accurate service records, equipment logs, and job documentation in compliance with internal reporting requirements.


• Communicate effectively with customers, project managers, dispatch, and leadership regarding job status, findings, and recommended actions.


• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local mechanical code requirements, including proper refrigerant handling and safety procedures.


• Participate in on ‑ call rotations and respond to emergency service requests as needed.


• Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment in safe and operational condition.


• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Expert knowledge of refrigeration cycles, hydronic systems, air distribution, and commercial HVAC control logic.


• Proficiency with diagnostic tools, digital gauges, combustion analyzers, airflow measurement devices, and BAS interfaces.


• Knowledge of applicable safety practices, procedures, and regulatory requirements necessary to maintain compliance and promote a safe working environment.


• Ability to lead field teams, coordinate workflow, and support project planning and execution.


• Strong analytical and problem ‑ solving skills with the ability to assess complex system failures and recommend corrective actions.


• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal stakeholders, facilitating clear information exchange, coordination of activities, and positive professional relationships.


• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound technical decisions in the field.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.


• Minimum 5–10 years of commercial HVAC service or installation experience.


• Or a combination of education and relevant experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties effectively.


• EPA 608 Universal Certification required.


• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

• NATE certification in commercial specialties preferred.


• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.


• Manufacturer ‑ specific training (Trane, Carrier, Daikin, Lennox, York) strongly preferred.


• Ability to work on rooftops, in mechanical rooms, and in confined spaces.


• Ability to stand, climb, kneel, and work at heights for extended periods.


• Exposure to varying weather conditions, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, and noise.
