Job summary

NRG Energy is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to provide commercial legal support to its C&I businesses. The role collaborates with originators, sales, and compliance to advise on legal risks, strategies, and contract negotiations for large power and natural gas supply agreements.

The ideal candidate has a JD, a TX bar license, and at least 10 years of relevant experience in a fast-paced corporate or law firm environment, with strong negotiation and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from ABA-accredited law school is required.
• Licensed to practice law in TX (or another state) is required.
• At least 10 years of combined legal experience in a law firm or corporate setting is required.
• Experience in the Energy Supply Industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Structure, draft, negotiate and facilitate commercial and industrial gas and electricity supply contracts, NASEBs, and other legal documents for NRG's C&I business.
• Provide support and counsel to all functional teams within NRG's C&I business.
• Maintain knowledge of laws and regulations governing NRG's C&I business.
• Advise senior leaders and internal clients on complex business issues, compliance, or risk, and develop solutions to mitigate corporate risks.
• Demonstrate sound business and legal judgment with attention to detail in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
• Demonstrate leadership to grow and manage the team's paralegals.
• Work with outside counsel within budget and timing constraints.
