Job summary

CenterPoint Energy in Houston seeks an Associate General Counsel - Commercial to lead the Commercial legal team and support the company's significant capital plan. This role focuses on structuring, negotiating, and executing complex commercial agreements while mitigating legal and business risk.

You will work with executive leadership across functions to deliver practical, business-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced energy environment, driving governance and contract playbooks for multiple

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and a J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; eligibility to practice as in-house counsel is required.
• Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible legal experience with complex commercial transactions.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and manage the Commercial legal team, providing mentorship and setting priorities.
• Serve as primary senior legal advisor for complex commercial transactions across capital projects, procurement, and other business needs.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and oversee a broad range of sophisticated commercial agreements.
• Collaborate with executive leadership and stakeholders to develop practical legal strategies that balance risk and business objectives.
• Develop contracting playbooks, templates, and risk frameworks to promote consistency and compliance.
