Job summary

City of Dallas is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer III to perform specialized and complex inspections enforcing municipal codes within city boundaries. You will serve as the final technical authority on code enforcement decisions and coordinate accurate documentation of violations.

The role requires navigating sensitive enforcement actions, providing citizen education, and leading junior officers while traveling City of Dallas properties and testifying when needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience interpreting and enforcing codes/ordinances.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record; current Code Enforcement Officer license (TDLR) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conducts specialized, technical, and complex inspections on city properties, projects, buildings, and developments to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Identifies non-compliant concerns; investigates violations and tracks corrective actions.
• Investigates non-compliant problems and recommends corrective action; communicates with developers and others to address violations.
• Creates notices of violation; takes photographs and gathers evidence; issues citations and responds to citizen complaints.
• Educates the public on laws, regulations, and code standards; interprets regulations for compliance.
• Drafts and updates inspection documents and service requests; tracks progress.
• Oversees, trains, and provides professional development for lower level officers; ensures quality control of inspections.
• Travels citywide to perform inspections; testifies in hearings and trials for code violations.
• Performs other work as needed.
