Job summary

Peraton Health, State and Local Sector seeks a COBOL Software Developer Advisor to join us in supporting and maintaining the Medicare Fee‑For‑Service claims processing system. You will serve as a principal technical contributor on an Agile team, providing maintenance and operations support for the Medicare DME contract.

As an Advisor, you will plan, direct, and coordinate software development across multiple functional areas of the DME system.

Qualifications

• Experience in a mainframe production or maintenance environment.
• Knowledge of health care claims processing, Medicare FFS.
• Ability to work in a highly structured development environment.
• Senior/principal software developer experience in a mainframe setting.
• Ability to determine and decompose business and technical requirements.
• Experience with Agile/SCRUM and DevOps/DevSecOps practices.
• Strong communication and technical writing for client interactions.
• Ability to provide estimates for tasks and projects.
• Experience with Medicare Part A/B and CWF processing systems.
• Experience with CMS programs or contracts.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, unit test, and debug complex enhancements to the Medicare health claims system.
• Lead technical design sessions and drive implementation of software components.
• Apply deep technical expertise to deliver reliable maintenance and development solutions.
• Integrate knowledge to implement enterprise solutions with minimal direction.
• Serve as a principal technical contributor on an Agile development team.
• Demonstrate mastery of mainframe development concepts and engineering techniques.
• Consult with team members, clients, and vendors to resolve complex issues.
• Mentor developers and support knowledge transfer within the team.
• Represent the team in client-facing technical discussions.
• Provide reliable estimates of time and resources for tasks and projects.
• Troubleshoot problems independently and deliver effective solutions.
• Contribute to strategic technical direction and develop solutions to complex problems.
