Job summary

Peraton Health, State and Local Sector seeks a COBOL Software Developer to join an Agile team supporting Medicare Fee-For-Service processing systems on a mainframe environment. You will contribute to maintenance and operations, delivering reliable, high-quality solutions with COBOL, JCL, CICS, TSO, and VSAM.

You will work within SAFe/Agile Scrum, assist in designing, developing, and enhancing software per established procedures and coding standards, and help maintain technical documentation.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience requirements: BS/BA or HS with 4+ years in software development.
  • US citizenship required.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain Public Trust clearance.
  • Experience with mainframe tech: COBOL, JCL, CICS, TSO, VSAM.
  • Ability to work in structured development environments.
  • Preferred: experience as a software developer in a mainframe environment.
  • Ability to decompose business/technical requirements.
  • Experience with Agile/SCRUM methodologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to estimate project tasks accurately.
  • Must maintain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and codes enhancements to the health claims processing system.
  • Participates in persistent Agile development teams for maintenance and operations.
  • Develops components in a legacy mainframe environment.
  • Assists in design activities for maintenance solutions.
  • Prepares and executes unit tests to validate changes.
  • Documents technical solutions and collaborates with clients and team members.
  • Provides time and resource estimates for tasks and projects.
  • Contributes to solving complex business and technology problems.

PreferredQualifications:

  • Experience with DevOps/DevSecOpstools and frameworks through plan, define, build, test, release and deploy processes.

In this role, youwillbe acontributing memberof an Agile teamproviding maintenance and operations support for the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) contract.

As a COBOL SoftwareDeveloper, you will work within a highly structured and rigorous development environment that follows theSAFeAgile/Scrum framework. This position offers anopportunity to build foundational engineering skills whilesupporting a critical healthcare platform.Youwillworkprimarily with mainframe technologies, including COBOL and JCL, to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions.

You willassistin designing, developing, and enhancing software programs according to established procedures and coding standards. You will also build and execute unit test plans, test cases, and test data to ensure high-quality deliverables.

You will collaborate closely with your team to plan and execute work assignments, ensuring all project due dates and sprint commitments are met. Additionally, you will help install software changes into internal testing regions, troubleshoot and resolve discovered defects, andassistin keeping technical documentation current.

  • Designs, codes, unit tests, and debugs enhancementsand fixesto the health claims processing system.
  • Participates as a member of a persistent Agile development teamsupporting maintenance and operations.

  • Applies company and 3rd party technologiessolutions of moderate complexitywith general direction.
  • With only general direction, implements end-user or enterprise solutions of moderate complexitywith general direction provided.
