Job summary

Peraton is seeking a COBOL Software Developer Advisor to join the Health, State and Local sector and support the Medicare Fee-For-Service claims system. You will be a principal technical contributor on an Agile team, guiding maintenance and DME contract work, and ensuring high-quality code with rigorous testing.

The role involves leading design sessions, mentoring developers, and delivering end-to-end solutions across mainframe components in a structured environment with strong coding standards.

Qualifications

• Education and experience: BS/BA with 8+ years or MS with 6+ years; or HS diploma with 12 years.
• Mainframe development experience in production or maintenance environments.
• Proficiency with COBOL, JCL, CICS, TSO and VSAM.
• Knowledge of Medicare Fee-For-Service processing is a plus.
• Agile/SCRUM lifecycle experience; SAFe a plus; ability to estimate work.

Responsibilities

• Designs, codes, unit tests, and debugs complex enhancements and fixes to the Medicare health claims system.
• Lead technical design sessions and drive implementation of complex components.
• Apply deep technical expertise to deliver reliable maintenance and development solutions.
• Integrate technical knowledge with business needs for high-complexity solutions.
• Serve as a principal technical contributor on persistent Agile team support.
• Mentor developers and support knowledge transfer within the team.
• Represent the team in client-facing technical discussions and provide accurate estimates.
