Job summary

Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) in Colorado Springs is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to support research, development, and rapid prototyping for DoD and DoE contracts.

You will work in the RDG with engineers and interns, setting up and running 3- to 5-axis machinery, interpreting drawings, performing first article inspections, and delivering high-precision components on schedule.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent technical training in machining or related field.
• 5–8 years CNC machining experience with setup and operation.
• Experience programming with Mastercam or equivalent CAM software.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and apply GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Create, modify, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam and machine controls.
• Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and multi-axis centers (3–5 axis).
• Interpret drawings, GD&T, and specs to ensure conforming hardware.
• Perform first-article and in-process inspections with calipers, micrometers, height gauges.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production to improve manufacturability.
• Mentor junior machinists and document setups for repeatability.
