Job summary

SARA, Inc. in Colorado Springs, CO seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support research and development for DoD and DoE programs. You will contribute from concept through operation, collaborating with engineers, physicists, and technicians.

The role emphasizes rapid prototyping, prototype fabrication, and advanced mechanical design with SolidWorks modeling and GD&T. Travel up to 15% and ability to obtain a TS security clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 5–7 years of demonstrated experience designing mechanical or electromechanical equipment.
• Advanced skills in SolidWorks 3D modeling.
• Must have strong time management in a deadline-driven environment.
• Willingness to travel up to 15% and obtain DoD security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Work in a rapid-prototyping environment with agility and openness to change.
• Fabricate and prototype using 3D printing and mockups.
• Prepare 3D models and GD&T input for detailed drawings.
• Independently handle moderate to advanced mechanical design projects.
• Coordinate with engineering staff and outside vendors.
• Apply knowledge of manufacturing materials and processes (milling, lathe, waterjet, laser).
• Provide insights for process improvements.
• Analyze data from proposals, specs, and manuals for feasibility and costs.
• Collaborate in cross-functional teams to resolve system issues.
• Conduct simulations and mechanical testing; document results for reports.
