Job summary

Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) in Cypress, CA is seeking a Mechanical R&D Engineer to support hands-on research, prototyping, and testing for defense and commercial programs.

You will work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment, bridging hardware, embedded software, and signal processing. A bachelor’s degree and up to five years of experience are typical requirements, with CAD/MATLAB skills highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, software, aerospace, etc.), GPA 3.5+.
• 0–5 years applicable experience.
• Ability to assemble and manipulate small electronic and mechanical assemblies; operate lab/test equipment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• US citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance (may be required).

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
• Perform experiments, analyses, and build proof-of-concept hardware.
• Design, fabricate, assemble, integrate, and test prototype or low-rate production systems.
• Collaborate with program leadership to define tasks and responsibilities.
• Work in lab or workshop as needed to advance R&D efforts.
