Job summary

Joyce/Dayton Corp. in the United States is seeking a CNC Lathe Operator II for 1st shift to join a hands-on manufacturing team. You will set up and operate CNC lathes, ensure parts meet tight tolerances, read blueprints, and inspect parts during production to maintain quality.

Responsibilities include editing programs for improvements, maintaining machine fluids, and training new operators while prioritizing safety and efficiency at our Dayton, OH and Portland, IN locations.

Qualifications

• Highschool Diploma or GED required.
• 3 years of proven CNC Lathe experience.
• Overhead crane experience.
• Sound mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience using steady rest.
• Able to perform machine set up (install proper chuck jaws and tooling).
• Ability to understand the majority of assigned setups.

Responsibilities

• Work to close tolerances (ie. .0002”).
• Machine metals including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
• Inspect parts during production using precision measuring instruments.
• Monitor and maintain machine fluid levels.
• Read process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.
• Edit pre-written programs with supervision when necessary.
• Edit program for process improvements and troubleshooting.
• Mount work pieces in chuck, to faceplate, or to fixtures.
• Select and install preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or cutters, and automatic tool change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet.
• Observe numerical control displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.
• Turn dials and switches to override program and correct machine performance.
• Inspect first run piece and spot check succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications.
• Study job packets and organize materials for next order during cycles to reduce cycle and set up time.
• Pre-set tools before positioning them in lathe.
• Set up and operate another machine tool during machining cycles.
• Set up and operate CNC machines using set-up sheets and written instructions with minimal supervision.
• Utilize all types of inspection instruments to check work per print without supervision.
• Possess knowledge of various cutting tools and has ability to determine various machine speeds and feeds.
• Perform basic equipment maintenance.
• Crosstrain on other plant machinery as required.
