Job Description

Senior Cloud Systems Administrator – Azure & CAE Applications

Overview / Summary

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Systems Administrator to coordinate the installation, integration, operation, and ongoing support of engineering applications within a Microsoft Azure Government environment. This role focuses on onboarding computer-aided engineering (CAE) applications, supporting virtual desktop environments and software licensing infrastructure, and helping develop an integrated engineering application environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting CAE tools, managing Azure infrastructure, administering software licenses, and translating application requirements into implementable technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather and document application requirements, including software binaries, infrastructure, dependencies, user populations, licensing models, authentication, and installation sequencing.
  • Coordinate the installation and configuration of CAE applications in Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop environments.
  • Identify applications requiring additional infrastructure, including license servers, databases, integrations, high-performance computing (HPC), and specialized virtual machine configurations.
  • Support application testing, user validation, and transition to ongoing operational support.
  • Participate in application and solution architecture reviews.
  • Support integration planning across CAE tools, 3DEXPERIENCE, requirements-management platforms, and data-transfer capabilities.
  • Document current-state and target-state architectures, application dependencies, and operational ownership.
  • Maintain inventories of Microsoft and Azure Government licenses, including license types, SKUs, assigned quantities, available capacity, and forecasted demand.
  • Monitor license consumption and initiate requests proactively to prevent capacity shortages.
  • Reconcile Azure Government charges across subscriptions, applications, environments, and users.
  • Prepare recurring cost reports and billing extracts, and investigate unexpected usage, cost variances, and consumption trends.
  • Maintain cost forecasts as applications, infrastructure, licenses, and user populations change.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, computer, or software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Seven or more years of experience installing and supporting CAE tools, such as MATLAB, Simulink, ANSA, LS-DYNA, or LS-PREPOST.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure and operations, including virtual machines, storage, identity, monitoring, backup, and cost management.
  • Experience supporting Windows-based virtual desktop applications, such as Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows 365, or comparable hosted desktop environments.
  • Understanding of floating or concurrent software licensing models and license server technologies.
  • Experience managing application licenses, SKUs, capacity, renewals, and usage reporting.
  • Ability to interpret vendor infrastructure and application requirements and translate them into implementable technical designs.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in mechanical, electrical, computer, or software engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Azure Government, GCC High, or other regulated government cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows 365.
  • Experience with cloud financial management, consumption reporting, chargeback, or cost allocation.
  • Familiarity with security assessments, application onboarding, architecture reviews, and change-management processes.
  • Experience supporting U.S. government or defense-related technology environments.
  • Systems integration experience involving interfaces, authentication and authorization, data flows, and application dependencies.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
