Job summary

Rocket Lab seeks a Principal Cloud Security Engineer to secure its cloud presence across multiple environments. The role is based onsite at our Long Beach, CA office and focuses on IaaS/PaaS/SaaS/FaaS security, automation, and risk analysis to support a growing multinational space company.

You will collaborate with IT, development, and operations teams to implement security controls, monitor tools, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including ITAR considerations for US operations.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in scripting languages and configuration management/infrastructure as code tools.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of work experience (16+ years total).
• Proven cloud security architecture experience across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
• Experience with governance and compliance regimes (NIST, DISA STIG) and ITIL/Change Review processes.
• Proficiency with Git-based version control systems (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket).
• Strong networking, encryption, and secure communication knowledge.
• Experience with databases and analytics tools (PowerBI, Jupyter) and data formats.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain security controls for hybrid cloud environments (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, FaaS).
• Develop custom automation to support security objectives.
• Provide security support for design reviews and risk analyses.
• Work with IAM to control access to cloud resources and apps.
• Create documentation and proofs of concept for security improvements.
• Configure and monitor cloud security tools and services.
• Collaborate with development teams to embed security into SDLC, DevOps, and MLOps.
• Stay current on threats and best practices in DevSecOps and MLOps.
• Participate in security audits, assessments, and regulatory reviews.
