Job summary

Rocket Lab, an end-to-end space company, seeks a Principal Cloud Security Engineer to own cloud-first security across diverse environments. Based onsite in Long Beach, CA, you’ll design controls, automate security, and lead risk analyses for production and non-prod systems.

You will collaborate with DevOps and development teams to embed security into SDLC, CI/CD, and MLOps, while guiding incident response and audits. A strong government/compliance background and US citizenship are required.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of scripting and infrastructure as code experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; 16+ years total work experience.
• Cloud security architecture across AWS, Azure, GCP.
• Experience with government compliance regimes (NIST, DISA STIG) and ITIL/change review.
• Vulnerability management tools (Tenable, Brinqa) and CLI scanners (Trivy, OpenSCAP).
• Strong git-driven version control experience (GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket).
• Knowledge of networking, encryption, and secure communications.
• Data and analytics experience with PostgreSQL/SQLite, Parquet/Arrow; PowerBI/Jupyter.
• US citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement security controls for hybrid cloud environments (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, FaaS).
• Develop automation to support cyber team objectives.
• Provide security support for design reviews and risk analyses.
• Assess vulnerabilities and define mitigations for cloud, CI/CD, and agents.
• Implement and manage IAM for cloud resources and apps.
• Create docs and proofs of concept for security improvements.
• Configure and monitor cloud security tools and services.
• Integrate security into SDLC, DevOps, and MLOps processes.
• Stay current on threats and advise proactive security posture.
