Job summary

IBM Software is seeking a senior backend engineer to help build cloud-native, multi-tenant data infrastructure and services. You will own complex backend components, drive architectural decisions, and ensure high availability and scalability across the Confluent platform.

The role emphasizes leadership, collaboration, and delivering robust compute services in a fast-paced environment. You will work with diverse teams to design APIs, improve observability, and push for continuous improvement

Qualifications

4+ years of backend systems experience in production.
Strong knowledge of Python runtimes and environments.
Proficiency in major languages (Python, Go, C/C++, Java).
Experience with public clouds and container orchestration.
Leadership experience coordinating engineers.

Responsibilities

Own and lead the design and implementation of complex backend services in a cloud-native environment.
Balance reliability, scalability, performance, and operability, communicating tradeoffs.
Drive end-to-end projects from requirements through production rollout.
Improve service reliability with defined SLOs/SLAs and observability.
Collaborate across teams to define APIs, integration points, and data models.
Identify platform improvements that raise the team’s productivity.
Mentor engineers through reviews and technical guidance.
