Job summary

IBM is seeking a senior backend engineer to advance our cloud-native, data-driven platform. You will design, implement, and operate services in a multi-tenant environment, focusing on reliability, scalability, and observability while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

You will own end-to-end delivery, set architecture direction, and mentor colleagues. Strong Python and cloud experience required; experience with Docker/Kubernetes and distributed systems is a plus.

Qualifications

• 4+ years industry experience designing, building backend systems in production.
• Strong Python programming and runtime management.
• Hands-on experience with public clouds, containers, and orchestration.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead design/implementation of backend services in a cloud-native environment.
• Make architecture decisions balancing reliability, scalability and performance.
• Drive end-to-end projects from requirements to production rollout.
• Improve service reliability by defining SLOs/SLAs and observability.
• Collaborate to define APIs, data models, and integration points.
• Identify platform improvements to raise engineering productivity.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and design reviews.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and high standards.
