Job summary

Early Warning is seeking a Sr. Staff Engineer - Cloud Engineering to lead the design, evolution, and operation of our cloud infrastructure on AWS. You will partner with security, compliance, and platform teams to build secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud-native solutions.

This role requires deep AWS/Kubernetes expertise, strong IaC and CI/CD experience, and the ability to guide multi-team initiatives through production delivery. Hybrid model in major U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
• Typically 12 years of cloud/infra engineering experience.
• Typically 4 years hands-on AWS experience with business-critical systems.
• Deep knowledge of AWS core services (compute, storage, networking, IAM, container orchestration, managed databases).
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and Linux environments.
• Experience designing and delivering large-scale, business-critical systems and cloud platform capabilities.
• Ability to influence technical direction and work across teams.
• Experience with CI/CD, secure engineering, Agile, and DevOps practices.
• Proven experience implementing PCI-DSS, SOC 2, FFIEC controls.
• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation or similar IaC tools.
• Experience building observability at scale (logging, metrics, tracing).

Responsibilities

• Lead design and optimization of cloud-native solutions on AWS.
• Ensure regulatory, risk, and compliance requirements in cloud infra.
• Provide senior technical leadership across multiple teams.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and platform issues.
• Lead root cause analysis and remediation for incidents.
• Align cloud environments with PCI‑DSS, SOC 2, FFIEC controls.
• Support audits and improve cloud controls.
• Architect and implement disaster recovery and high availability.
• Reinforce cloud security, IAM, network, encryption practices.
• Drive IaC adoption and CI/CD improvements.
• Oversee vulnerability management and config compliance.
• Design observability solutions (logging, metrics, tracing).
• Provide delivery planning and backlog shaping.
• Create technical documentation and guidance.
• Mentor engineers to raise engineering quality.
• Support risk management and data protection.
