Job summary

NRC Health in Lincoln, Nebraska, is seeking a software/platform engineer to design, build, and enhance our healthcare platform. You will own the software and services you build, design for reliability and scalability, and develop high-quality code with modern engineering practices.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years on a professional development team, hands-on Kubernetes and AWS experience, CI/CD, IaC, and experience with AI-assisted development tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, IT, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years’ experience on a professional development team.
• Strong software engineering experience developing production applications.
• Experience administering Kubernetes clusters (Amazon EKS preferred).
• Experience with AWS services (EKS, RDS, IAM, S3, Route 53, ALB, CloudWatch).
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).
• Experience automating infrastructure, deployments, or operational workflows.
• Understanding of cloud architecture, distributed systems, and modern app design.
• Experience troubleshooting production systems in cloud environments.
• Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and logging platforms.
• Demonstrated proficiency using AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT, etc.).
• For newer AI adopters, willingness and ability to learn modern AI-powered workflows.
• Strong problem-solving and ownership mindset.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• Experience with test-driven development (NUnit or similar).
• Familiarity with ReactJS or EmberJS.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and enhance customer-facing product functionality across our healthcare platform.
• Own the software and services you build, focusing on reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Build and maintain Kubernetes-based application deployments.
• Design, implement, and maintain IaC to provision cloud resources.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines for reliable, automated delivery.
• Build reusable infrastructure modules and deployment patterns.
• Automate operational processes to improve platform reliability.
• Collaborate with engineers to improve deployment processes and workflows.
• Monitor production environments and improve observability and health.
• Identify and resolve scalability, performance, and reliability challenges.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable solutions.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate development, tests, and documentation.
• Participate in architecture discussions and shape long-term technical direction.
• Write clean, well-documented code.
