Job summary

System One is seeking an Application Cloud Engineer to maintain cloud-based applications and infrastructure on AWS. You will work with development, operations and security teams to ensure scalability, performance and security of cloud applications, with on-call rotations for 24/7 production support.

Candidates should have extensive AWS experience, IaC (Terraform), container orchestration (ECS/EKS), and strong scripting (Python, Bash, Node.js).

Qualifications

• 8+ years with BS/BA; 6+ years with MS/MA; 3+ years with PhD or 12 years with HS Diploma/equivalent
• 3 years of IT experience
• Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-based deployment strategies
• Familiarity with image registries like Amazon ECR and CI/CD pipelines for container deployment
• Proficient with Python, Bash, YAML/JSON, Node.js, Lambda functions
• Proficient in scripting languages like Python, Bash and Node.js
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub, GitLab, Kubernetes, DevOps, CI)
• Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and implementation
• AWS or relevant Cloud certifications (AWS DevOps Engineer, Solutions Architect Associate)
• Solid understanding of cloud architecture principles, autoscaling strategies and load balancing
• Proficient with monitoring, alerting and logging tools
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

Responsibilities

• Provision and manage AWS infrastructure using IaC with Terraform
• Hands-on experience with Amazon EKS (cluster provisioning, upgrades, node groups management)
• Familiarity with EKS networking (VPC CNI, security groups for pods, ALB/NLB ingress controllers)
• Kubectl proficiency and Kubernetes object management (deployments, services, configmaps, secrets, RBAC)
• Monitor and troubleshoot production systems using AWS CloudWatch and other observability tools
• Collaborate with developers to containerize and deploy applications using ECS and Lambda
• Deploy applications across dev, staging, prod environments with consistency and stability
• Monitor deployments and system health using CloudWatch and other tools
• Troubleshoot and resolve deployment issues and improve pipeline performance and reliability
• Perform daily health checks using AWS CLI or scheduled Lambda scripts to check health and log/report results
• Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to ensure stateless, fault-tolerant apps
• Enhance containerization environments on ECS for scalability and observability
• Improve orchestration strategies with auto-scaling and rolling deployments
• Support feature branch testing, MR validation and artifact promotion workflows
• Ensure pipeline security and compliance via automated code scanning and gates
• Remediate OS-level, container and dependent vulnerabilities
• Orchestrate failover and restoration of ECS/EKS/Lambda and databases
• Test regional failover playbooks and recovery runbooks
• Ensure compliance with RTO and RPO requirements
• Diagnose and resolve production issues across cloud services, containers, databases, CI/CD
• Follow and improve incident response playbooks and escalation workflows
• Automate common ops tasks and improve alerting to reduce on-call fatigue
• Log incidents, changes, and metrics in tracking systems
