Job summary
NextGen Healthcare seeks a Principal Database Engineer to drive the architecture, automation, performance, and reliability of enterprise database platforms across AWS and GCP. You will lead SQL Server lifecycles, migrations to PostgreSQL, and implement IaC-driven provisioning and observability.
The role requires deep SQL Server expertise, cloud-native mindset, and mentorship across engineering teams to advance DevOps/SRE practices in a regulated healthcare environment.
Qualifications
- 10+ years designing enterprise relational databases in production.
- Experience in cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure) and IaC.
- Experience in incident response, SRE initiatives, and database DevOps practices.
- Experience migrating SQL Server to cloud-native or open-source platforms.
- Experience with Kubernetes or containerized workloads in SaaS/healthcare contexts.
Responsibilities
- Architect, automate, and optimize enterprise database platforms across clouds.
- Lead reliability, performance, and lifecycle management of SQL Server; drive migrations to PostgreSQL.
- Develop IaC-based provisioning, patching, backup validation, failover testing workflows.
- Define observability standards, telemetry, logging, and proactive alerting.
- Mentor engineers, influence technical standards, and drive modernization initiatives.
- Collaborate with Platform Engineering for CI/CD pipelines and environment standardization.
