Job summary

NextGen Healthcare is seeking a Principal Database Engineer to lead the architecture, automation, and reliability of enterprise database platforms across multi-cloud environments. You will drive SQL Server stewardship, migrations toward PostgreSQL and cloud-native services, and codify automation through IaC and CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years designing, supporting, and managing enterprise relational database platforms in production environments.
• Experience in public clouds (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and IaC/DevOps practices.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and drive standards across large engineering organizations.

Responsibilities

• Define, architect, and govern enterprise DB platforms across cloud environments (AWS, GCP).
• Lead reliability, performance, scalability, and lifecycle management of SQL Server with migrations to PostgreSQL and cloud-native services.
• Develop automated frameworks for provisioning, patching, backup validation, failover testing using IaC.
• Partner with Platform Engineering to implement CI/CD, schema versioning, and environment standardization.
• Collaborate with app teams to optimize DB design, queries, and deployment for cloud-native architectures.
• Establish comprehensive observability standards with telemetry, logging, and alerting across DB environments.
• Lead RCA and permanent corrective actions after major production incidents.
• Author standards and documentation to reduce ops complexity and align tech roadmaps.
