Job summary
NextGen Healthcare is seeking a Principal Database Engineer to own the architecture, automation, and reliability of our enterprise database platforms across AWS and GCP. This role blends deep database engineering with SRE and DevOps, delivering highly available, secure, and observable data services for cloud-first healthcare applications.
You will lead migrations from SQL Server to PostgreSQL, build IaC-driven provisioning, automated patching, and CI/CD for database releases, and mentor
Qualifications
- 10+ years designing and managing enterprise relational databases in production.
- Experience with public clouds (AWS/GCP/Azure) and IaC/devops practices.
- Mentor engineers and lead database modernization to cloud-native platforms.
- Experience with incident response, RCA, and SRE initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Define and govern enterprise database platforms across cloud environments.
- Lead reliability, performance, and lifecycle management of SQL Server with migration to PostgreSQL.
- Develop automated provisioning, patching, backups, and failover using IaC.
- Build CI/CD pipelines and environment standardization for databases.
- Collaborate with app teams on schema design and performance.
- Establish observability standards and proactive alerting.
- Drive RCA and post-mortems for major incidents.
