Job summary

Highmark Health in Raleigh, NC seeks a Senior Database Administrator to lead PostgreSQL in the GCP Cloud SQL environment and SQL Server on-prem. The role covers design, optimization, and production support, with a focus on high availability and performance.

You will collaborate with development teams and vendors to integrate database solutions, implement monitoring and security controls aligned with HIPAA, and automate routine tasks using Python, PowerShell, and IaC tools like Terraform.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED; IT experience accepted in lieu of degree where permitted.
• 3–5 years IT experience; healthcare domain knowledge a plus, HIPAA awareness beneficial.
• Vendor DBA certifications preferred for relevant DBMS platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and review of physical data models derived from logical models.
• Support complex database deployments and assist application teams with DBMS questions.
• Automate routine DBA tasks and deployments using scripting and IaC.
• Establish automated space and availability monitoring and backup strategies.
• Provide after-hours support for on-call, refreshes, and upgrades.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to implement best practices.
