Job summary

Headway is seeking a Principal, Clinical Program Development to design, implement, and scale clinical programs that expand how and where we deliver care. You will build the policies, SOPs, and governance scaffolding needed to operate safely at scale, coordinating with Clinical Operations, Compliance, Product, and Data.

As a senior clinician, you will own programs end to end—from needs assessment to launch to steady state—driving plans, milestones, risks, and reporting.

Qualifications

• Active clinical license as a master's-level therapist (LCSW, LPC, LMFT), a doctoral-level clinical psychologist (PhD/PsyD), or another psychiatric clinician (PMHNP-BC, MD/DO) with 7+ years of experience in mental health settings.
• Track record of building and launching clinical programs from concept to steady operation with clear care models.
• Excellent program management with multiple concurrent initiatives, clear plans, milestones, and reporting.
• Experience writing policies and SOPs in healthcare settings with familiarity of regulatory, payer, or accreditation requirements.
• Fluency with evidence-based practice and the ability to translate evidence into practical standards for clinicians.
• Data-informed approach with outcome and safety measures and collaboration with data teams.
• Ability to lead cross-functional projects and navigate competing priorities.
• Motivation to tackle access to affordable, high-quality mental healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Design new clinical programs from needs assessment through program design, including target population, care model, triage criteria, documentation standards, escalation and crisis pathways, and success measures.
• Build the policies and SOPs each program needs, incorporating review and version control, and aligning with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Run programs with strong program management: plans, milestones, dependencies, owners, resourcing, risks, and clear status reporting.
• Launch and operationalize by integrating program standards into workflows, provider-facing materials, and training; lead pilots and readiness checks.
• Measure and improve with data: set baselines, track outcomes and safety signals, and decide on iteration, scale, or sunset based on evidence.
• Align programs with governance: present designs to governance bodies, manage clinical risks through processes, and advise on governance updates for compliance and scalability.
