Job summary

The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technician C to perform laboratory testing on companion animal specimens across hematology, chemistry, coagulation, cytology, blood banking, and immunology.   • Associate's degree or two-year college equivalent and 3-5 years of relev

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and test clinical laboratory specimens according to established protocols across multiple disciplines.
  • Perform daily quality control; identify abnormal findings and resolve QC issues; oversee instrument calibrations and start-up.
  • Apply QC principles including Westgard Rules and assist in trend/error management.
  • Accession specimens; assist others during high workload. Prepare specimens for shipment to outside laboratories.
  • Review and release results; communicate abnormal findings to clinicians and staff. Enter and release outside lab reports.
  • Train technicians in instrument operation, troubleshooting, QC, maintenance, and specimen handling.
  • Develop ongoing training materials and proficiency resources.
  • Assist with difficult specimens and serve as a technical resource.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and provide workflow feedback.
  • Maintain organization and inventory of supplies.
  • Maintain knowledge of LIS; assist with setup and data retrieval.
  • Provide leadership in absence of management and coordinate daily tasks.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
