Job summary

The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technician C to perform laboratory testing on companion animal specimens across hematology, chemistry, coagulation, cytology, blood banking, and immunology. Responsibilities

Prepare and test clinical laboratory specimens according to established protocols across multiple disciplines.
Perform daily quality control; identify abnormal findings and resolve QC issues; oversee instrument calibrations and start-up.
Apply QC principles including Westgard Rules and assist in trend/error management.
Accession specimens; assist others during high workload. Prepare specimens for shipment to outside laboratories.
Review and release results; communicate abnormal findings to clinicians and staff. Enter and release outside lab reports.
Train technicians in instrument operation, troubleshooting, QC, maintenance, and specimen handling.
Develop ongoing training materials and proficiency resources.
Assist with difficult specimens and serve as a technical resource.
Develop and maintain procedures and provide workflow feedback.
Maintain organization and inventory of supplies.
Maintain knowledge of LIS; assist with setup and data retrieval.
Provide leadership in absence of management and coordinate daily tasks.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
