University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technician C in the School of Veterinary Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. The role performs laboratory testing across hematology, chemistry, coagulation, cytology, blood banking, and immunology using automated and manual methods.

Responsibilities include specimen processing, quality control, results review and release, and serving as a technical resource for complex cases.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or two-year college equivalent with 3–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
  • Experience with clinical laboratory testing techniques and quality control practices.
  • Ability to operate both automated and manual testing methods and troubleshoot.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to train and guide other laboratory staff and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with LIS is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and test clinical laboratory specimens using automated and manual methods.
  • Perform daily quality control and oversee calibrations and startup of analyzers.
  • Apply quality control principles and identify trends or errors.
  • Accession specimens and assist during high workload periods; handle shipments to outside labs.
  • Review and release results; communicate abnormal findings to staff and pathologists.
  • Train technicians on instrument operation and quality control procedures.
  • Develop training materials and proficiency resources for staff.
  • Assist with difficult specimens and support research testing as needed.
  • Maintain procedures and workflow documentation; ensure inventory and supplies are stocked.
  • Provide leadership in the lab in the absence of management.
