Job summary

University of Michigan’s Michigan Medicine MAISE team seeks a Data Science Analyst Senior/Intermediate to design, develop, validate, deploy, and maintain AI and data science solutions for clinical, operational, and research needs. You will work with EHR data, relational databases, and healthcare information sources to build ML models, NLP/Large Language Models, and automated pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; senior level requires five+ years experience or master's with two+ years.
• Experience in data science, machine learning, statistics, or software development.
• Experience with ML frameworks, traditional ML, deep learning, and generative AI.
• Experience with clinical NLP, LLMs, prompt engineering, information extraction, or automated clinical documentation.
• Experience developing, testing, debugging, and documenting software, data pipelines, ETL workflows, APIs, or production apps.

Responsibilities

• Define project requirements with clinical, operational, research, and technical stakeholders.
• Acquire, cleanse, integrate, and analyze structured and unstructured healthcare data.
• Design scalable data structures and reusable pipelines for AI apps.
• Develop, train, evaluate, and optimize ML and statistical models for clinical, operational, and research use.
• Develop clinical NLP and LLM applications for information extraction and workflow automation.
• Build and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes for model development and production.
• Integrate AI solutions with existing databases and healthcare systems.
• Validate AI outputs and model performance with clinicians and researchers.
• Monitor model performance, data quality, and system reliability; propose improvements.
• Document data processing, model development, evaluation, deployment and maintenance procedures.
