Job summary

The Hartford, a leading insurer, seeks a Claim Specialist for the Global Specialty Liability Major Case Unit to handle primary and excess bodily injury, property damage and complex litigation claims.

You will analyze contracts, determine indemnity, manage defense counsel, set reserves, and present case strategies to leadership. Hybrid or remote work is available, with some in-office work near Hartford and other locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; law degree a plus.
• Minimum of five years handling both primary and excess policy coverages/claims including complex litigated commercial general liability matters.
• Strong coverage acumen with the ability to apply manuscript policy terms to the facts.
• Disciplined, results-oriented with a focus on bottom-line results.
• Superior analytical ability and organizational skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations and analyze information learned.
• Make coverage determinations and communicate written positions.
• Set reserves within authority and monitor adjustments.
• Present cases to management for reserve authority above thresholds.
• Develop and implement resolution strategies for high quality outcomes.
• Proactively manage litigation and counsel, including budgeting and bill review.
• Attend trials and mediations as necessary.
• Contribute to broader claim and enterprise goals through audits and projects.
• Prepare comprehensive reports and deliver presentations to senior leadership.
• Work with partners to address claim trends and developments.
• Address inquiries from agents and policyholders with superior service.
