Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Claim Specialist in its Global Specialty Liability Major Case Unit to manage primary and excess bodily injury and non-bodily injury claims. You will analyze complex fact patterns, determine coverage, and manage litigation and defense counsel while ensuring high-quality outcomes.

Ideal candidates have extensive experience with primary and excess policy coverages, complex litigated matters, and strong negotiation skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; law degree a plus.
• Minimum of five years handling both primary and excess policy coverages/claims including complex litigated commercial general liability matters.
• Strong coverage acumen with ability to apply manuscript policy terms to claim facts.
• Disciplined, results-oriented with focus on bottom line results.
• Superior analytical ability and organizational skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills including knowledge of coverage and tort laws.

Responsibilities

• Conducting investigations and evaluating information learned.
• Making coverage determinations and communicating written positions to insureds and required parties.
• Within authority levels, setting reserves and monitoring for adjustments.
• Presenting cases to management for authority above established levels.
• Developing and implementing resolution strategies for high quality outcomes.
• Proactively managing litigation and counsel, including budgeting and bill review.
• Attending trials and mediations as necessary.
• Participating in audits, projects and product development initiatives.
• Preparing comprehensive reports and delivering presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments.
• Working with business partners to evaluate claim trends and developments.
• Addressing inquiries from agents and policyholders with a focus on superior customer service.
