Job summary

The Hartford Global Specialty (HGS) Liability Major Case Unit is seeking a Claim Specialist to manage a caseload of primary and excess bodily injury and property damage claims. Candidates should have strong coverage acumen, experience in complex litigated matters, and the ability to work with defense counsel to achieve favorable outcomes.

Responsibilities include investigations, coverage determinations, reserve setting, case presentations to leadership, and collaborating with business partners

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; law degree a plus.
• Minimum of five years handling both primary and excess policy coverages/claims including complex litigated commercial general liability matters.
• Strong coverage acumen with the ability to apply manuscript policy terms to facts.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations and analyze information learned.
• Make coverage determinations and communicate positions to insureds and required parties.
• Set reserves within authority and monitor adjustments.
• Present cases to management for reserve authority.
• Develop and implement resolution strategies for high-quality outcomes.
• Manage litigation and counsel, including planning, budgeting, and bill review.
• Attend trials and mediations as necessary.
• Collaborate on audits, projects, and product development initiatives.
• Deliver reports and presentations to senior claim leadership.
