Job summary

The Hartford in Naperville, IL, seeks a Claim Specialist for the Global Specialty Liability Major Case Unit. You will manage a portfolio of primary and excess bodily injury and non-bodily injury claims, including complex litigated matters and coverage analysis.

Responsibilities include investigations, coverage determinations, reserves, litigation management, and collaboration with partners to address trends and provide superior customer service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; law degree a plus.
• Minimum of five years handling both primary and excess policy coverages/claims including complex litigated commercial general liability matters.
• Strong coverage acumen with the ability to apply terms and conditions of manuscript policies to facts.
• Disciplined, results-oriented with focus on bottom line results.
• Superior analytical ability and organizational skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of coverage and tort laws.

Responsibilities

• Conducting investigations and analyzing and evaluating information.
• Making coverage determinations and communicating written positions to insureds and other required parties.
• Setting reserves and monitoring for adjustments within authority.
• Presenting cases to management for reserve authority above established limits.
• Developing and implementing resolution strategies to achieve high quality outcomes.
• Managing litigation and counsel, including planning, budgeting, and bill review.
• Attending trials and mediations as necessary.
• Participating in audits, projects and product development initiatives.
• Preparing comprehensive reports and delivering presentations to senior claim leadership.
• Working with business partners to address claim trends and developments.
• Addressing inquiries from agents and policyholders with a focus on superior customer service.
