Job summary

Bexar County PA is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to supervise professionals in the design, construction, and maintenance of public works projects. The role involves coordinating with contractors, agencies, and the public to ensure compliance with codes and standards.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, six years of civil engineering experience with leadership, a Texas PE license, and a valid Texas driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas (PE).
• Valid Class C Texas driver's license.
• Extensive knowledge of civil engineering practices in traffic, roadway, drainage, and bridge design or floodplain management.
• Ability to supervise multiple projects and teams.
• Strong communication with staff, external stakeholders, and the public.
• Background check and pre-employment screenings required.
• Possible overtime beyond 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Prepares technical reports and reviews engineering studies, construction plans, and specifications.
• Reviews land development design plans, studies, reports, and permits for code compliance and acceptance.
• Reviews capital project design plans, specifications, and cost estimates; attends reviews and resolves design issues.
• Coordinates development of project designs with contractors, utilities, landowners, developers, governmental agencies and the public.
• Provides information on drainage, stormwater permits, roadway plans, traffic studies and subdivision platting to County staff and public.
• Advises other Public Works sections on engineering issues.
• Ensures right-of-way is acquired and coordinates acquisition activities.
• Attends public meetings to discuss capital projects and development issues.
• Conducts field investigations to evaluate engineering challenges and recommend solutions.
• Supervises Civil Engineers, Civil Engineering Assistants, and Engineering Technicians.
• Assists with division budget preparation.
• Performs related duties as required.
