Job summary

City of Surprise Public Works Department seeks a Civil Engineer-Senior to lead drainage-focused development reviews and capital improvement projects. The role emphasizes drainage analysis, stormwater management, and coordination with city departments and the development community.

The incumbent will review complex land development designs, stamp plans, and communicate requirements for drainage compliance and flood mitigation. A PE license and Arizona driver license are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and four (4) years of professional civil engineering experience with at least three (3) years in land development design/review.
• A combination of education and experience may be considered equivalent; additional education cannot substitute for experience.
• Must obtain/maintain AZ PE license and AZ driver license at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform development reviews of complex land development and capital improvement projects.
• Coordinate with multiple departments and staff; mentor and train others.
• Develop solutions, interpret policies, and stamp engineering plans as approved.
• Communicate drainage requirements, flood mitigation, and infrastructure protection clearly.
