Job summary

The City of Surprise Public Works Department seeks a civil engineering principals-oriented Senior Civil Engineer to join its Engineering Development Review division. The role emphasizes drainage analysis, drainage report review, and stormwater management, with strong communication of drainage requirements and infrastructure protection.

Under general supervision, the incumbent reviews complex development and CIP projects, coordinates with multiple departments, and stamps engineering plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and four (4) years of professional civil engineering experience with at least three (3) years design/review in land development.
• Must have at hire and maintain a State of Arizona PE license or equivalent.
• Must have at hire and maintain a valid Arizona Driver License.
• CFM certification preferred for Public Works positions.

Responsibilities

• Review complex development and CIP projects and coordinate across departments.
• Exercise technical expertise, interpret policies, and stamp engineering plans.
• Assist in mentoring and training staff.
• Communicate drainage requirements, flood mitigation, and infrastructure protection clearly.
