Job summary

Thomas & Hutton in Augusta, GA seeks a Civil Designer IV to lead land development projects with autonomy, applying independent engineering judgment and managing design calculations while interfacing with clients daily.

The role requires PE or near-licensure, EIT/FE, and strong Civil 3D proficiency. You will mentor CAD staff, contribute to proposals, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver high-quality plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 4+ years of experience designing land development projects using Civil 3D.
• EIT/FE certification and PE licensure, or ability to obtain within one year.
• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise independent engineering judgment.
• Experience with financial reporting tools to evaluate project performance.
• Strong written and verbal communication, leadership, and conflict resolution.
• Business development and client relationship responsibilities readiness.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex design problems using field data and calculations with minimal supervision.
• Interpret code and permitting requirements and choose technical approaches.
• Own construction plans, specs, reports, and cost estimates from concept to completion.
• Direct and review CAD staff, resolving technical conflicts.
• Maintain daily client contact and present to clients, contractors, and agencies.
• Assist in marketing and business development activities.
• Coordinate across disciplines without a project manager intermediary.
• Prepare budgets, schedules, and proposals, flagging risks and scope changes.
