Job summary

Commonwealth Sciences, Inc. in Massachusetts is seeking a senior Chemical Engineer to develop, scale, and optimize chemical processes from lab to pilot and into continuous manufacturing.

You will design, size, and select process equipment including reactors, pumps, vessels, piping, and instrumentation, and develop P&IDs/PFDs with process calculations. The role requires hands-on experience with chemical processing equipment, P&IDs, instrumentation, and troubleshooting, alongside strong knowledge

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Proven experience with process development, scale-up, and pilot/continuous manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience with chemical processing equipment, P&IDs, instrumentation, and troubleshooting.
• Strong knowledge of reaction engineering, heat/mass transfer, fluid mechanics, and separations.
• Experience with HAZOP/FMEA and process safety.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, scale, and optimize chemical processes from lab to pilot and continuous manufacturing.
• Design, size, and select process equipment, including reactors, pumps, vessels, piping, and instrumentation.
• Develop P&IDs/PFDs and perform process calculations.
• Execute scale-up experiments and troubleshoot process/equipment issues.
• Support equipment assembly, commissioning, and pilot operations.
• Participate in HAZOP, FMEA, and process safety reviews.
• Develop SOPs, technical documentation, and process control strategies.
• Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and manufacturing teams to transition processes into production.
